Lawn Aeration Services
Help your lawn breathe, absorb water, and develop stronger roots with professional core aeration from Deer Brook Land & Property Services.
Give Your Lawn Room to Grow
Over time, lawn soil can become compacted from regular use, mowing equipment, weather, and seasonal conditions. Compacted soil makes it more difficult for water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the root zone.
Core aeration helps relieve that compaction by removing small plugs of soil throughout the lawn. The openings allow air, moisture, and nutrients to move more effectively into the soil while creating better conditions for deeper, healthier root development.
Better Conditions Below the Surface
A healthier lawn starts with the soil. Aeration helps improve the environment around the grass roots instead of focusing only on what is visible above ground.
Reduce Soil Compaction
Create openings in dense soil so grass roots have more room to develop.
Improve Water Absorption
Help water move below the surface rather than remaining primarily on top of compacted ground.
Improve Nutrient Access
Help lawn nutrients reach the root zone where grass can make better use of them.
Encourage Stronger Roots
Better soil conditions can support deeper and stronger root development.
What Is Core Aeration?
Core aeration uses specialized equipment to remove small cylindrical plugs of soil and turf from the lawn. Unlike equipment that simply pushes spikes into the ground, core aeration physically removes material and creates open channels through compacted soil.
The soil plugs are normally left on the lawn, where they gradually break down naturally and return organic material to the soil.
Signs of Compacted Lawn Soil
Not every lawn has the same needs. Soil type, use, drainage, weather, and maintenance history can all affect how quickly compaction develops.
If your lawn experiences one or more of these conditions, core aeration may be worth considering.
Heavy Foot Traffic
Frequently used lawns can become increasingly compacted over time.
Hard or Dense Soil
Soil that feels unusually firm can make root growth and water penetration more difficult.
Water Pooling
Water remaining on the surface may indicate that moisture is having trouble penetrating the soil.
Thin or Stressed Grass
Poor soil conditions can contribute to weak or inconsistent lawn growth.
Equipment Traffic
Mowers, tractors, and other equipment can gradually compress lawn soil.
Recently Established Lawn
Some lawns may have compacted soil beneath the surface from previous property or construction activity.
When Should You Aerate Your Lawn?
Timing matters. Aeration is generally most useful while grass is actively growing so the lawn can recover from the process and take advantage of improved soil conditions.
Spring Aeration
Spring may be appropriate for lawns experiencing significant compaction or properties preparing for the active growing season.
Lawn condition, moisture, weather, and soil conditions should all be considered before service.
Fall Aeration
Early fall can provide favorable conditions for many cool-season lawns in New Hampshire because grass remains actively growing while temperatures become more moderate.

Improve What’s Happening Below Your Lawn
